Many people have less than straight smiles, gaps between teeth, or perhaps teeth that stick out or are twisted. The thought of a metal fixed brace to straighten teeth has put many people off seeking treatment. Thankfully, due to modern dental technology, there is a braces alternative which straightens teeth almost invisibly called Invisalign.

Invisalign works using sets of clear aligners which are worn for two weeks at a time. The aligners are custom fitted to the teeth and each set of aligners gently move the teeth into the desired location.

The first consultation

On your first visit to discuss Invisalign treatment, we will thoroughly examine the teeth and discuss what you would like to achieve and whether you would be a suitable candidate for Invisalign treatment. We can discuss all areas of Invisalign treatment so that you have all the information you need to decide on the best course of action. If you decide to proceed, we will then take impressions and photographs of the teeth, then send them to the Invisalign labs in the US with a thorough set of instructions.

Invisalign make your aligners

With the use of innovative Invisalign technology, the team are able to transform the impressions and photographs we have sent over into 3D images which are then used to make the clear aligners. The number of aligners needed varies from each patient, but it can be anything from twelve aligners up to almost fifty aligners.

Your new aligners arrive

The next stage is receiving your first set of clear aligners. They should be worn for approximately two weeks and we will provide one or two extra sets of aligners so you can continue progress before your next appointment with us.

Treatment begins

Now you have your new aligners you can begin treatment. The aligners need to be worn for over 20 hours a day, so we would suggest only removing the aligners when eating, drinking and cleaning the teeth. After two weeks you will start wearing your second set of clear aligners; each set of aligners gently move teeth into the desired location. Treatment time is very much dependant on patients dental plan but can range from six months to a year, but this can vary from patient to patient. In order to keep a close eye on progress you will come to the clinic about every six weeks so we can check that the treatment is working correctly.

Treatment is completed

After wearing each set of aligners in the treatment plan, you treatment will be finished and your teeth will be straight! You will be able to smile in confidence knowing your teeth look beautifully aligned.
