TEETH WHITENING TREATMENT

Our teeth whitening treatments are safe and effective, and come with the professional advice of one of Smile360 trusted dental professionals. And for your convenience, you could have teeth whitening at the practice or with a teeth whitening kit to use at home.

The best way to keep your smile healthy and bright is to look after your teeth and gums. However, it’s not unusual to need a little help. Perhaps you smoke, or your teeth have been stained by tea, coffee or red wine. They may also lose their whiteness with age. Fortunately, our professional teeth bleaching treatments can repair discolouration quickly and safely without damaging the enamel or any other part of your teeth.

Why come to Smile360?

Whichever whitening option we recommend for you, you can be sure it’s safe and effective. Plus, you’ll have a helpful initial consultation where we’ll:

  • Check that your teeth and gums are healthy and suitable for whitening.
  • Discuss the best teeth whitening option for you.
  • Show you on a chart what shade of white you can expect to achieve and to ensure a natural-looking result.
  • Give you an idea of how long it will take; depending on your treatment, this could be anything from an hour to several weeks

A whiter smile can sometimes boost your confidence, especially if you feel self-conscious about the colour of your teeth. Knowing how and where to get your teeth whitened safely and effectively is not always obvious. You’ll also have the reassurance of being treated by one of our qualified dentists.

Teeth whitening is one of the most commonly requested cosmetic dental treatments. We offer both in- practice and at-home whitening options.

How does in-practice teeth whitening work?

Step 1 – Book a check-up

Your dentist will make sure your teeth and gums are healthy enough for whitening. They’ll also talk to you about the shade of white you want to achieve. If everything looks fine, they’ll take impressions of your teeth so they can make your custom trays to use at home.

Step 2 – Whiten your teeth on the spot

When your trays are ready, you’ll come back for your whitening session. Your dentist will first protect your gums before applying the whitening solution and then switch on the special blue lamp, which activates the solution. The whitening is done in four 15-minute sessions, but you’ll need to allow two hours for the whole appointment.

Step 3 – Protect your new smile

Before you leave, your dentist will give you your top-up kit and explain how to use it at home. They’ll also discuss how to hold onto your brighter smile. This includes regular deep cleaning and polishing with our hygienist, effective cleaning at home, and cutting down on smoking or drinks that can stain your teeth.

Teeth whitening at a dental practice

  • You’ll need a check-up with your dentist first.
  • We’ll make custom trays to fit your teeth, which you’ll take home with you.
  • We’ll use a bleaching solution.
  • The solution will be activated by a special blue light.
  • You’ll need a single whitening session, as part of an appointment lasting up to two hours.
  • The whitening process takes one hour.
  • At the end of the session, your teeth will be up to six shades whiter.
  • We’ll give you some top-up trays and gel to help maintain your bright new smile.

Home teeth whitening kit

  • We’ll make custom trays to fit your teeth, which you’ll take home with you.
  • You’ll also take home some bleaching gel.
  • You’ll wear the trays and gel for up to eight hours a day (it’s convenient to do this overnight).
  • The whitening process takes several days or up to a few weeks.
  • At the end of the treatment, your teeth will be up to six shades whiter.
  • You can get top-ups to help maintain your bright new smile.

How does a home whitening kit work?

Step 1 – Book a check-up

To make sure your teeth and gums are healthy enough for a home whitening treatment, you’ll need a check-up first . If everything’s in good shape, we’ll take impressions of your teeth so we can create your custom-made trays to use at home – they’re a bit like mouth guards. We’ll also discuss what shade of white you can expect to achieve.

Step 2 – Collect your custom trays

When your trays are ready, you’ll come back to collect them as well as the bleaching gel to use at home. During the appointment, your dentist will make sure the trays fit correctly and comfortably, and show you how to use them.

Step 3 – Whiten your teeth at home

Now it’s over to you. Your dentist will talk to you about how long to wear the trays each day, which can be anything up to eight hours (in which case, most people opt to wear them overnight). The time will depend on your teeth and the shade of white you’re looking for.

What about ‘over the counter’ home whitening kits?

Many UK pharmacies and websites sell teeth whitening kits or whitening strips to use at home. Just be aware that these products don’t always work, and some of them can permanently damage your teeth. We advise that you get teeth whitening done under the guidance of a dentist, even if it’s not a Smile360 dentist.
