Optimal dental hygiene protects your teeth and gums
For keeping your mouth, teeth and gums healthy, effective dental hygiene is a must.
It’s well-known that regular home and practice-based oral care significantly reduces the risks of tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease and keeps your smile looking great every day.
Dental hygiene at the practice
At Smile 360, we know that when it comes to optimal oral and dental hygiene, prevention is better than cure.
And regular, in-practice care is a great way for us to take care of your teeth and mouth. Periodic appointments with our hygienists can keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy and naturally enhance your smile.
We recommend coming to see us for a dental checkup and professional hygiene cleaning about every six months.
Hygiene cleaning removes plaque and tartar build-up as well as reducing bacteria that can accumulate in hard-to-reach areas of your mouth.
Regular dental checkups also allow your dentist to identify and treat tooth decay at the earliest stages to minimise damage.
Your dentist and hygienist are always happy to give you tips and advice on taking care of your teeth at home with an optimal daily oral health routine.
Home dental hygiene
In the long term, looking after your teeth and gums effectively every day at home can reduce the risks of dental problems and optimise your oral health.
Your Smile 360 dentist will be happy to show you the most effective dental and oral healthcare routines you can do at home every day for yourself and your family.
Generally, we recommend brushing your teeth after eating or for at least two minutes in the morning and two minutes before going to bed, using fluoride toothpaste.
It’s also a good idea to change your toothbrush every 3 months to reduce bacteria build-up and ensure effective cleaning.
Flossing once a day can help remove small particles that can get stuck between teeth, and we also recommend rinsing your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash.
Reducing the risks of oral health issues
Optimal dental and oral hygiene routines at home and regular checkups at the dentist are not the only ways you can improve your oral and dental health.
Making healthy lifestyle choices can reduce gum disease and tooth decay as well as improve the appearance of your teeth.
These can include:
- Eating a balanced diet
- Taking regular exercise
- Cutting down or stopping smoking
- Restricting sugary food and drinks
Your dentist will be happy to explain the advantages of a healthy lifestyle and help you make changes that can positively influence your general and oral health.
